Bay College, Finlandia University Forge Student Transfer Agreements

HANCOCK, MI - Finlandia University, Hancock, Mich., and Bay de Noc Community College, Escanaba, Mich., are working together for student success.

The two Upper Peninsula learning institutions have forged an agreement which makes it easier for Bay College associate degree graduates to continue their education toward a bachelor's or other degree at Finlandia.

At a ceremony to take place this Monday, June 13, 2011, at 11:15 a.m., at the Bay College Escanaba campus, Bay College President Laura Coleman, Finlandia University President Philip Johnson, and TyAnn Lindell, Finlandia's executive vice president for academic and student affairs, will publicly sign a Memorandum of Understanding and Articulation Agreement. The public is welcome to attend.

"Through this articulation agreement, students attending Bay College will have a roadmap that matches specific Bay College classes to bachelor and associate degree course requirements at Finlandia," says Lindell. "Equivalency sheets have been developed for 14 Finlandia degree programs."

"The equivalency sheets are intended to minimize duplication of academic requirements by clearly delineating how a Bay College student can arrange their course schedules to transition smoothly from completion of a two-year degree program at Bay College into a degree program at Finlandia," Lindell explains.

The Finlandia University degree programs included in the agreement are: Business Administration (B.B.A.), Fine Arts (B.F.A.), Medical Assistant (A.A.S.), Physical Therapist Assistant (A.A.S.), Elementary Education (B.A.), and Liberal Studies bachelor of arts degrees in Communication, Criminal Justice, English, Psychology, Social Science, Sociology, Pre-professional Science, and Arts, Culture and Environment (ACE).

The equivalency sheets will be available to Bay College students through the office of Beth Beaudoin Noreus, Bay College Transfer Student Coordinator/Advisor.

"Forging this agreement has opened an important dialogue between administrators, staff, and faculty of both institutions," says President Johnson. "It is our hope that we have established a foundation that encourages and supports future cooperation and collaborations among faculty and staff at Finlandia University and Bay College."
