Jane De Martini

Jane De Martini graduated from the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in Secondary Education.  She was a varsity letter winner for the Fighting Illini women's track and field team and qualified for national championships in the high jump, 800 meter, and 4 x 800 meter relay.  Since college, she has competed in 10-K races, trail runs, and most recently competed in her first triathlon, beating her younger brother.  She has coached at high schools in Illinois and Alaska.

"Finlandia's runners are lucky to have an athletics facility named after Paavo Nurmi, 'The Flying Finn'," said De Martini.  "They can expect to be part of a team that values mental strength and steadfastness, attributes that earned Nurmi nine Olympic gold medals."

De Martini believes that competing in cross-country can positively affect a student-athlete's academic performance.  And that experiences gained during collegiate competition continue to bring rewards throughout life, like the enjoyment of working as part of a team and the confidence that comes from having achieved your goals.
