Ally Tincknell is Again Independents Player of the Week - February 9, 2009

HANCOCK, MI. – Finlandia University junior forward Ally Tincknell (Negaunee, Mich.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 9, 2009. Tincknell was also Independents player of the week for the week of January 19, 2009.

Tincknell led the Lions to a pair of wins on the week with a pair of double-doubles. She averaged 17.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest. In game one, she posted 10 points and 12 rebounds and followed that showing with a 24-point, 16-rebound performance in game number two. She shot a blistering 83.3% from the floor (10-of-12) and added five assists in the second victory.

Tip-off Time Change for February 21 Men's and Women’s Basketball Games - February 9, 2009

HANCOCK, MI – The start time of the Saturday, February 21, Finlandia University men’s and women's basketball games vs. Northland Baptist Bible College has been changed.

The women's game will begin at 12:00 p.m. and the men's game will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Finlandia’s Paavo Nurmi Center gymnasium.


Jodi Riutta is Independents Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
- February 3, 2009

HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University junior forward Jodi Riutta (Houghton, Mich.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 2, 2009.

Riutta averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in two Lion victories on the week. She shot 51.6% from the floor overall and recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, respectively, in her second game.

HANCOCK, MI – The start time of the Friday, February 6, Finlandia University women’s basketball game vs. Mount Mary College has been changed.

The game will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Finlandia’s Paavo Nurmi Center gymnasium.

Finlandia’s Ally Tincknell is DIII Independents Player of the Week - January 22, 2009

HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University junior forward Ally Tincknell (Negaunee, Mich.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 19.

In an overtime loss on the road, Tincknell paced her team with a solid double-double performance, scoring 21 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. She shot 63.6% from the floor (7-of-11) and added a two steals and a pair of blocks.

Finlandia's Riutta Named Player of the Week - November 25, 2008

Hancock, MI - Finlandia University junior forward Jodi Riutta (Houghton, Mich.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week.

Riutta averaged 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.3 steals over three games on the week.  Her best performance came against Wisconsin Lutheran College when she produced a double-double with 29 points and 14 rebounds, along with 5 assists and a pair of steals.  She connected on 14-19 field goals (73.7%), helping her to a 57.7 shooting percentage on the week.

Lions Women Finish Third in National Academic Top 25 - July 31, 2008

HANCOCK, MI – The Finlandia University 2007-08 women’s basketball team finished third in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Academic Top 25 for the 2007-08 season, the organization announced Tuesday.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 ranks schools in five divisions, from NCAA Division I to junior/community colleges. The rankings are based on the average GPA of the entire roster. Teams making the list of Academic Top 25 Team must obtain at least a 3.0 overall GPA.

The Lions, under head coach Curtis Wittenberg, finished with a 3.571 cumulative grade-point-average, sharing third place with Maryville University-St. Louis. Concordia University, Wisconsin, had the top Division III GPA at 3.637.

“This is a great accomplishment for the team,” said Coach Wittenberg. “These women strive to be the best on and off the court. I am so proud of our players for this accomplishment.”

Finlandia’s Tincknell Receives Independents Honors - March 13, 2008

HANCOCK – Finlandia University sophomore Ally Tincknell (Negaunee, Mich.) has been named to the Association of Division III Independents Third Team for women's basketball.

“Ally had a great season, averaging 15.4 points per game (52.5% from the floor), 10.2 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game,” said Curtis Wittenberg, head women’s basketball coach.

“She was consistent night in and night out. She was always under-sized but was still able to put up a double-double (double figures in points and rebounds) almost every night. This is a great honor for Ally and I look forward to challenging her to improve on this next year.”

The All-Independent Women’s Basketball teams were selected by the women’s basketball coaches from member schools of the Association of Division III Independents.

FU's Tincknell Independents Player of Week

HANCOCK – Finlandia University sophomore forward Ally Tincknell ( Negaunee , Mich. ) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women's basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season.

On the weekend, Tincknell helped her team to a 1-1 record by averaging 23.5 points and 11 rebounds per contest. She also shot 57.7% from the floor and 70.8% from the charity stripe.

In a 61-49 victory over Rochester College February 1, she tallied 15 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. On February 2, she added 32 points and 12 boards in a tough 74-66 loss to Marygrove College .

“Ally has been a solid player for us game in and game out,” said Curtis Wittenberg, head women's basketball coach.

Finlandia’s Tincknell Named Player of the Week


HANCOCK, MI – Finlandia University sophomore forward Ally Tincknell (Negaunee, Mich.) has been named the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week. Tincknell helped her team win the Silver Lake College Tip-Off Tournament in Manitowoc, Wis., by averaging 20.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game. She also shot a blistering 68% from the field en route to an All-Tournament team selection. In a 65-61 win over Ashford, she tallied 27 points and nine boards and added 14 points and eight rebounds in Finlandia’s 64-54 victory over Silver Lake.
