If you were looking forward to a summer-long date with your couch, there is no need to cancel! We offer a variety of online classes in addition to our classes on campus.
Summer is busy, we get it. That’s why there are three different summer sessions you can choose from: May (4 week session), June (4 week session), and May-June (8 week session).

Art & Design Ceramics Workshop: Summer Clay Day
Monday, June 2, 2014 from 10am - 2:30pm
Some fun clay exercises to get everyone laughing and ready to play with clay. Each participant in the session will learn how to make a tile that can be hung on a wall. The tiles will be made out of earthenware clay and decorated with terra sigillatas. We will explore different techniques of pattern making and carving in to the clay. Once fired (later that week) these tiles will be able to be picked up and taken home by the artist. Cost: $40/person.
Art & Design Fiber Workshop: Summer Bookbinding
Monday, July 14, 2014 from 10am - 2:30pm
In this class the participants will learn the basics of bookbinding and hand stitchery by creating a personalized journal /sketchbook. The morning will be centered around creating a unique set of covers for the books and learning how to fold paper into book signatures. During the remaining part of the class students will learn how to bind these two things together into one functional book. Cost: $40/person.

A stimulating week of intellectual and aesthetic activities, the MAEA summer PD workshops were designed to provide Michigan art teachers with an opportunity to advance their knowledge of artistic practice and enhance the classroom experience for all Michigan students. Educators can take the courses for continuing education credit, but it is also open to the public. Cost TBD.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Training
Monday, June 9, 2014 from 1:30pm - 5pm
Monday, June 23, 2014 from 10am – 1:30pm
Monday, July 14, 2014 from 10am - 1:30pm
You will be trained in one and two man CPR with AED useage for adults, children, and infants. Basic first aid and choking will also be covered. A video presentation, hands-on test scenarios, and question/answer time will be followed by a written test. All participants who pass the test and successfully complete the course will receive a BLS card (CPR and First Aid) good for two years. The CPR training is certified through the American Heart Association. Cost: $25/person
