On Thursday, March 2, Finlandia University’s Board of Trustees announced that Finlandia will not enroll students for the 2023-2024 academic year. The decision follows months of continuous efforts to find pathways for the University to continue its mission.
“I am deeply saddened to announce that due to a combination of demographic changes, with fewer high school graduates available, a steep decrease in interest in going to college among those graduates, and an unbearable debt load, Finlandia’s Board of Trustees met and [...]

A Common Place: Remembering, Imagining, Healing
Finlandia’s Campus Read and Helsinki Slang communities invite all to attend A Common Place: Remembering, Imagining, Healing on Tuesday, April 19. The free event will start at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of St. Matthew where the winners of the 2022 Campus Read Writing Contest will be announced. For anyone interested in sharing their work, an open mic will be provided.
In conjunction with our Campus Read author and text (Joy Harjo, An American Sunrise), we offer the 2022 Campus Read Writing Contest.

The Campus Read committee invites submissions of essays, fiction and poetry (500 words or less) that consider how your life, landscape and community are affected by the climate crisis, or that imagines how we can meet its challenges.
“The committee was intrigued by Katya Gordon’s local approach to climate activism and the similarity of her Two Harbors community on the Minnesota shoreline of Lake Superior to ours,” Assistant Professor of English Dr. Carolyn Dekker said. “We hope her visit can help energize campus and local conversations and actions around climate change and sustainability.”
“The campus has been incredibly welcoming. Everyone has been asking great questions, making me feel like everyone has read my writing which makes me feel so special, unique and amazing.”
“We are so fortunate to have Lindsay King-Miller visiting with us,” said Dr. Carolyn Dekker, Assistant Professor of English. “I love her compassionate, approachable advice writing and her smart, intimate personal essays on topics like parenting, pop culture, and grief.”
