A Tradition Rooted In Service

FinnU martial arts students compete in Inaugural North Country Tournament

The Leijona Martial Arts Club of Finlandia University hosted the first annual North Country Tournament on June 30, 2019 at the Paavo Nurmi Center. Students from Finlandia, Michigan Tech’s Husky Tae Kwon Do, Marquette Soo Bahk Do and Strong Soo Bahk Do of Crandon, Wisconsin participated. Visiting masters Master Ron Strong and Master Carl Vonck provided demonstrations and judging support, as did Finlandia’s instructors, Assistant Professor of English Carolyn Dekker and security staffer Shawn Hammond.

Finnish Bluegrass-Rockers Steve n Seagulls Returning to the Keweenaw on September 4

Finnish bluegrass-rockers Steve ‘n’ Seagulls will be making a return visit to the Keweenaw with a concert at the Rosza Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, September 4. Tickets will be on sale Monday, July 1 for the high-energy band that performs bluegrass versions of well-known rock and metal songs from a decidedly Finnish perspective.

Finlandia University Awarded Grant to Launch Center for Vocation and Career Development

Finlandia University students are set to see an upgrade to their job-seeking skills as the university has received the $25,000 NetVUE Vocation across the Academy Grant from the Council of Independent Colleges to launch a Center for Vocation and Career Development.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…Late Night Breakfast & Tutoring

Finlandia University’s favorite finals kick off tradition is back! Late Night Breakfast is set for Sunday, April 28 at 10 p.m. in the Finlandia Café. Trio Student Support Services will also have tutors available in the Café from 7 to 10 p.m. A therapy dog will be available for lots of pets and being a very good dog starting at 7 p.m. in Finlandia Hall.

Final Session of Adulting 101 to Feature Alumni Panel

The fourth and final session of Adulting 101 will take place April 23 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew.

This last installment will feature Director of Global Initiatives Cat Fuller and a panel of young alumni. Fuller will be discussing post college options, outside of starting a career.

Third Session of Adulting 101 to Take Place on April 16

The third session of Adulting 101 will take place April 16 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.  at  the Chapel of St. Matthew.

This session will host three speakers. Accounting professor Laura Sieders will discuss the importance of budgeting and how to be a smart investor. How to navigate student loans will be presented by Director of Student Financial Services Sandy Turnquist. Finally, Human Resource Manager Alyson DeLandsheer will explain work benefits and what they mean.

One of Finlandia University’s most loved events is officially on the books for 2019. The Diversity Dinner is set to be held Tuesday, April 23 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Finlandia Hall Café.

The event is free for Finlandia students and $10 for the public. Come taste food from around the world as FinnU students cook food from countries of their national origin.
