Learning about healthy gender identity with Filmmaker Byron Hurt

This week Finlandia Fridays was visited by documentary filmmaker Byron Hurt. Hurt’s film Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes was shown last week to kick off the Month of Action, a month-long campaign put on by Finlandia to raise awareness against sexual violence and encourage healthy gender identity. Hurt was also on campus to give a talk “Locker Room Talk or Toxic Masculinity?”, which took place earlier this week.

Finlandia hosts second annual Walk a Mile in THEIR Shoes March on October 3

Event Part of Month of Action

Finlandia University’s Men of Strength of Club is hosting the Walk a Mile in THEIR Shoes march on Wednesday, October 3 at 4 p.m. The second annual event starts at Quincy Green, and continues on Quincy Street into downtown Hancock.

What’s Burning? Lion Around Podcast Gives College Cooking Tips

The Lion Around podcast went back into Finn Hall for its third episode, which focuses on college cooking tips and tricks. Finn Hall (short for Finlandia Hall), is the only residence hall on FinnU’s campus, and it is equipped with community lounges on each floor. Each lounge comes with a microwave, stove top, mini fridge and, sink so students can cook for themselves outside of cafeteria hours or instead of going to the cafeteria.

Documentary Filmmaker Byron Hurt coming to Finlandia University

Next week Finlandia University welcomes renowned documentary filmmaker Byron Hurt to the area for an event titled “Locker Room Talk or Toxic Masculinity?” on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Finnish American Heritage Center.

Feeding America West Michigan and Finlandia University to Host Mobile Food Pantry on October 10

On October 10, Feeding America West Michigan,in partnership with Finlandia University, will provide a food distribution to people in need at Baraga Area High School. The distribution will take place at 4:30 p.m.

NOTE: The event has been moved inside to the small gym. Volunteers will enter the school by the flag pole. Those coming to get food should follow volunteer instruction upon arriving at the school.
