First half of 2018 schedule finalized for Finlandia University Gallery

Finlandia celebrates MLK Day with third annual Day of Service

Students and faculty aren’t reporting to class as they usually do on Monday morning. Instead students, staff and faculty are continuing one of Finlandia’s newest and most rewarding traditions – MLK Day of Service. Students, staff and faculty are volunteering throughout the Copper Country, with a total of 16 service sites ranging from the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter in Calumet to The Bluffs Senior Community in Houghton, and just about everywhere in between.

Volunteer sign ups for MLK Day of Service now closed, but volunteers still wanted

Due to incredible student response, all 17 MLK Day of Service sites in the community are full. However, it is not too late to volunteer. If you are still interested in volunteering, please report to Finlandia Hall at 9 a.m. on Monday morning and you will be assigned somewhere.

The third annual MLK Day of Service at Finlandia University will take place on MLK Day, which is Monday, January 15.

Onni Nordman’s “Sauna: Divine Comedy” coming to Finlandia University Gallery

Finlandia University Gallery will present a series of artwork by Finnish-Canadian artist Onni Nordman. His exhibit titled Sauna: Divine Comedy will be on display at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock, from January 18 to February 17.

Nordic Film Series opens Heikinpäivä with Oscar nominee

A film by the Copper Country’s favorite Finnish director will screen at the Finnish American Heritage Center on Thursday, January 11 at 2 and 6 p.m. as this month’s installment of the Nordic Film Series.

Students invited to Late Night Breakfast & Tutoring Sunday night

On Sunday night the longstanding tradition of Late Night Breakfast will continue, and will once again include a little help from students’ friends in TRIO Student Support Services as Tutoring will be available in Finlandia Hall prior to breakfast. This event is free and all students are encouraged to attend. Student Reminder: How to renew your Service Scholarship

Students who were awarded the new Service Scholarship for the fall 2017 semester may renew it for the spring 2018 semester as long as they have completed and reported their eight service hours by December 15, 2017.

To report hours, simply fill out the Service Hours Form.

Relaxing events scheduled starting Sunday

Finlandia University students are invited to one of several relaxing and fun events during Finals Week. These events, which includes a visit from dogs, coffee, snacks and yoga, are being hosted by the Wellness Committee. These events are all free and open to all students.
