Maki Library expands hours for final two weeks of semester

The Sulo & Aileen Maki Library at Finlandia University has expanded its hours of operation throughout the final two weeks of the semester to help students better prepare for finals week.

A full list of hours can be found below, and can always be found on the right-hand column on the Maki Library webpage.

27th Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition Kristin Pavelka: Kahvipaussi

Finlandia University Gallery will present the 27th Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition featuring the work of ceramic artist Kristin Pavelka. Her exhibit, titled Kahvipaussi will be on display at the Finlandia University Gallery. An opening reception for the public will take place at the gallery on Thursday, December 7th, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. with an artist talk beginning at 7:20 p.m.  The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Finlandia’s Finnish American Heritage Center to host Independence gathering on December 6

It’s the most watched television program in Finland every year, and this year Copper Country residents will have the chance to tune in as well.

It’s the annual Presidential Independence Day Ball, which is hosted each December 6 by the President of Finland at the Presidential Palace, and televised across the nation. TRIO SSS hosting Christmas/Finals Open House on December 7

On Thursday, December 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Mannerheim Central TRIO Student Support Services will be hosting their annual Christmas/Finals Open House.

This event is open to all Finlandia students, faculty and staff. The open house will include a festive and cozy atmosphere, hot cocoa, hot cider, snacks, holiday music, diverse holiday favorites on DVD, a make-and-take craft table and a whole l to of holiday cheer!

Equity and Diversity Committee hosting Hidden Figures showing

The Equity and Diversity Committee will be hosting a film event on Thursday, November 30 at 7 p.m. in Wargelin 303. The movie will be Hidden Figures, and immediately following the showing will be a discussion led by Dr. Claudia Youakim and Janice Cox-Adolphs.

Light snacks will be provided. All students and employees are invited to attend.

The Paloheimo Fellows Program, a competitive study abroad opportunity, is now taking applications for the Spring 2018 class. Andrews named head women’s soccer coach

Jordan Andrews has been named head coach for the Finlandia University women’s soccer program. Andrews has been an assistant coach for the men’s team for the last three seasons and women’s team for the last two seasons.

Tonight Finlandia University welcomes Emily Linden, the founder of the Unslut Project. She will present at the Finnish American Heritage Center on Tuesday, November, 14 at 7 p.m.
