MLK Day of Service volunteer site signups now open

Students participating in Finlandia University’s second annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service are invited to sign up for their service site now.

“As of right now we have 19 service sites needing over 130 students available for students to volunteer at,” said René Johnson, a member of the Equity and Diversity Committee at FinnU. “This should make for a great day here at Finlandia University.”

North Wind hosting local author Kristin Neva for signing and reading

North Wind Books presents local author Kristin Neva for a book signing and reading on Wednesday, January 18 from 4 to 6 p.m.

This free event will be at the bookstore on the campus of Finlandia University. Neva will be promoting her newly released book, Snow Country.

Winter Welcome to kick off spring semester at FinnU

The spring semester at Finlandia University will start with a 10-day slate of on-campus events that includes a welcoming feast, film showings, worship services, NCAA Division III hockey and the university’s annual MLK Day of Service.

“This is going to be a wonderful way to start our semester,” said Fredi de Yampert, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs. “There’s a little bit of something for everyone during our Winter Welcome event.”

Nordic Film Series opens 2017 with Finnish documentary

The Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center with a documentary film set during the war years, but from a perspective not typically shared. The film will be shown at 2 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 12.

The movie Selma to be featured during MLK Day

The second annual MLK Day of Service at Finlandia University will feature a film presentation of Selma. The event is at 7 p.m. in Wargelin 303 on MLK Day, which is Monday, January 16.

The event is free and open to the entire campus community. Complimentary popcorn will be served. Additional snacks will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go to Finlandia’s Equity and Diversity Committee to fund future campus events.

Student reps wanted for Equity and Diversity Committee

The Equity and Diversity Committee is looking for two student representatives. The committee is now accepting applications.

“This is an opportunity to make a difference and gain valuable experience by shaping the future of Finlandia University,” said Dr. Claudia Youakim, a member of the committee.

Online registration for Spring 2017 remains open until Dec. 7

Please note: Registration can still be done through your academic advisor or the registrar’s office after December 7.
