Auditions open for spring play at Finlandia University

Community and students invited to audition November 1

The laughter on Finlandia University’s campus will be coming from way up high this spring as the university is once again putting on a play – this time it will be Neil Simon’s Laughter on 23rd Floor.

Details on the play will be released early during the spring semester, but for now community members and students are invited to audition for the play on Tuesday, November 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. [...]

January 2017 class registration starts November 7 

Online class registration for January 2017 begins on November 7. Students need to meet with their academic advisors to get their registration PIN along with picking out their classes. Please keep in mind that if you have any holds on your account (financial aid, admissions, student accounts, etc.,) you will not be able to complete the online registration until your hold has been lifted.

SLH residents participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

Keep an eye out for the girls in the Servant Leadership House during the week leading up to Halloween. They are once again participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF , so have your spare change ready! Some of the girls will even be in costume.

“Last year with four participants, we raised $42,” student Gina Geliche said. “We stuck pretty close to campus last year, but we will be venturing beyond the borders a little more this year as we have more people collecting.”

Dr. Bourdage hosts Zine Making Night at Maki Library

Campus Read comes to a close on Thursday, October 20 from 7-9 p.m. at the Maki Library, as Communication Professor Dr. Monique Bourdage hosts a Zine Making Night to celebrate self-expression and provide students with a platform through which to channel their voices.

Finlandia migrates official Campus Catalog to website

The official Campus Catalog for Finlandia University is now located natively on the university’s website. Previously, it existed only as PDF on the website. The 2016-17 catalog and archived versions dating back to 2008-09, are now online and accessible for all at finlandia.edu/academics/campus-catalog.

Study Abroad Workshop to be hosted October 4

Finlandia gains new Snapchat filter

Quick, pull out your phone, open Snapchat, take that perfect selfie and start swiping. Why? Because the Finlandia University Snapchat filter is officially active!

The filter can be applied to any photo or video taken on Finlandia’s main campus – reaching roughly from the Paavo Nurmi Center to Old Main.

The filter features a Finnish flag-inspired design, and it’s of course free for anyone to use. It was designed by Finlandia’s Creative Director Brad Beaudette.

Minor updates made to 2016-17 Academic Calendar

The 2016-17 Academic Calendar has received some minor updates.

This updated calendar includes the MLK Day of Service (January 16, 2017), a correction to the date for the last day to withdraw with a “W” for the spring semester (Thursday, March 23, 2017) and a correction to the date for the last day to withdraw with a “W” for the fall semester’s first-half of semester classes (Friday, September 30, 2016).

Campus Read 2016-17 spotlights racial justice

Classes across campus this week are reading  Danez Smith’s work in advance of Smith’s visit to campus on September 30.  Smith was selected as the Campus Read author for 2016-17 because their poetry speaks so powerfully of the need for racial and social justice.
